Take A Number From 1 To 10
Jazz New - LP LP 681 Argo
Sealed 1961 Deep Groove Mono Original, Tiny Cut Out Hole. “A Record That Transcends Its Novelty Trappings, Take A Number From 1 To 10 Begins With Benny Golson's Solo Rendition Of The Evergreen "You're My Thrill" And From There Adds A New Musician (Among Them Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, And Curtis Fuller) With Each Successive Track, Climaxing With The Full Ten-Piece Group's Rendition Of The Golson Original "Time." While The Progressive Sonic Expansion Is Fascinating To Behold, The Small-Group Settings Are No Less Impressive For Their Intimacy And Nuance. In Fact, A Gorgeous Duet Rendition Of "My Heart Belongs To Daddy" Pairing Golson With Bassist Tommy Williams May Be The Most Impressive Performance Here.” Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide.... more details |

The Other Side Of Benny Golson
Jazz Used - LP RLP 12-290 Riverside
Archival Quality 1958 Deep Groove Blue & Silver Label Mono Original Housed In A Laminated Cover With Promo Stamp On Back Cover. Comes With The Original Glassine Inner Sleeve. “Tenor-Saxophonist Benny Golson's Third Recording As A Leader Was Significant In Two Ways. It Was His First Opportunity To Work With Trombonist Curtis Fuller (The Two Would Be Members Of The Jazztet By 1960) And It Was One Of His First Chances To Really Stretch Out On Record As A Soloist; Up To This Point Golson Was Possibly Better Known As A Composer. Three Of The Six Originals On This CD Reissue Of A Riverside Date Are Golson's ("Are You Real" Was The Closest One To Catching On) But The Emphasis Is On The Solos Of The Leader, Fuller And Pianist Barry Harris; Bassist Jymie Merritt And Drummer Philly Joe Jones Are Excellent In Support.” Scott Yanow, AMG.... more details |
