Idle Race / ELO Related - Birthday Party
Stunning 1968 UK Mono Gatefold Original With A1/B1 Stampers. Record Appears Glossy, Unplayed. Features Different Artwork Than The US Version. The Inner Gatefold Shows A Well Attended Birthday Party With Famous Faces Pasted Over The Attendees. “The Debut Album By This Unjustly Overlooked Band Is A Piece Of Classic British Psychedelia That Transcends Its Origins. Most British Bands Trying To Achieve A Psychedelic Sound In Those Days Simply Played Softly And Sang In A Very Effete And Poetic Manner - The Idle Race, By Contrast, Play Hard Here And Don't Sound Effete So Much As Just Cheerfully Trippy, A Lot Like The Beatles Of "Penny Lane" And "Strawberry Fields Forever"; Indeed, "End Of The Road" From This Album Sounds Like A Rewrite Of "Penny Lane." Jeff Lynne Is The Dominant Personality Here, As Composer, Guitarist, And Singer, And, As One Might Expect Given His Presence, The Music All Has A Beatles-Like Quality Of Playfulness Amid The Musical Invention. Much More Indicative Of His Future Direction Are "Morning Sunshine," One Of The Prettiest Songs To Come Out Of The Entire Birmingham Music Scene And Displaying A Languid Guitar Flourish That Anticipates Any Number Of ELO Songs Circa A New World Record, And "The Lady Who Said She Could Fly," An Orchestrated Beatlesque Jewel That Sounds Like A Lost ELO Track.” Bruce Eder, All Music Guide....more

Nirvana - The Story Of Simon Simopath
Factory Sealed 1967 Stereo Original. Long Before The American Grunge Phenomenon, The UK Version Of Nirvana Were An Entirely Different Beast. The Songwriting Team Of Patrick Campbell-Lyons And Alex Spyropoulos Were More Concerned With The Lighter Side Of 60's Psychedelia. Released In 1967, 'The Story Of Simon Simopath' Lays Claim To Being The World's First Concept Album, Pre-Dating The Pretty Things' 'S.F. Sorrow' And The Who's 'Tommy'. It Traces The Story From Life To Death Of The Titular Hero Via A Series Of Short Songs Which Are Similar In Tone And Innocence To The Work Of Mark Wirtz. Although Never Reaching Any Degree Of Classic Status, Most Of The Songs Are Strong Enough To Cater For Lyons' Somewhat Plummy Vocals And The Saccharine Sentiments. Indeed, 'I Never Had A Love Like This Before' And 'The Courtyard Of The Stars' In Particular, Hold A Defiant And Tuneful Flower Up To The Aggression Of The Concept Albums Which Would Subsequently Follow. The Orchestral Skills Of The Band Are Also There To Be Heard On The Well Constructed 'Wings Of Love' And 'Pentecost Hotel'....more

Originally Released In 1968 As A Private Press That Goes For Over $2000. “This Chapter Of Psychedelic Music History Started From The Spontaneous Musical Events, Which Were Hosted By Flautist Loren Standlee And Singress Ziska Baum At A Parisian Hotel Stella In Late 1960's. Among Other Artists Daevid Allen Joined The Duo With His Guitar, And Raja Samyana Focused To The Tribal Beats With His Drums. With Various Line-Ups The Group Performed At French Underground Happenings, These Performances Possibly Culminating At Stockholm's Museum Of Modern Art, Where They Played With Gong In 1967. After These Tours And Student Revolution Turmoil Of Paris, Loren And Ziska Moved To United States. There The Limited 100 Copies Of First Vinyl Release Of "Dreaming The Magic Of Your Maya" Was Produced From The The Trippy Hotel Recording Tapes. These Neo-Shamanist Aural Poems Yearn To Break The Barriers Of Conventional Music Expressionism, And Should Please The Fans Of Archaic Raga Rock Freak-Out Moments. In New York The Pair Continued To Create Music And Arts, And In 1970 They Recorded With Raja, Patric Fipro And Loren Lawner The "Voyage To Nebadon" Album, Not Being Released Until Year 2012. This Release By Wah Wah Label Combines Both Records As A Convincing Double Vinyl Release, And Exposes To Daylight An Interesting And Sympathetic Hippie Psychedelic Act Out From The Shadows. A Small But Beautiful And Meaningful Movement, Being Part On The Larger Transatlantic New Wave Of Flowerpower Culture And Krautrock Scene.” – Prog Archives...more

Late Of The Pier - Fantasy Black Channel
Factory Sealed 2008 Gatefold Original With Custom Hype Sticker On The Cover. “It's A Yawnably Familiar Back-Story: Following A String Of Hyped Independent Singles, A Band Of Young Upstarts Drops Its Eagerly Anticipated First LP To The Notoriously Hyperbolic Adulation Of The British Music Press. As U.S. Listeners Would Discover Five Months Later, When An Astralwerks Release In Early 2009 Gave Them A Chance To Hear What All The Fuss Was About, It's A Familiar Sound, Too: In Essence, The Same Basic Mode Of Synth-Heavy Dance-Punk That Has Dominated Blogs And Indie Club Nights Ever Since The Rapture's Breakout Early In The Decade. But While Late Of The Pier Might Be The Latest In A Lengthy Line Of '80s-Indebted Electro-Rock Synthesists, Up Through And Including Their Frequently RIYL'd Counterparts Klaxons, They Are Also Among The Most Inventive And Musically Ambitious Acts To Ply That Sound. It's Those Qualities, Rather Than Any Specifically Identifiable Musical Characteristics, That Have Earned The Foursome Comparisons To Figures Like Frank Zappa, Todd Rundgren, And Brian Eno, And Which Make Their Eclectic And Genuinely Experimental-Feeling Debut, Fantasy Black Channel, Such An Invigorating And Successful Enterprise. If Nothing Else, It's Certainly A Wild Ride. Although Five Out Of Its 12 Tracks Had Previously Appeared As Singles, Only A Couple Of Them (The Riff-Centric, Gary Numan-Ish "Space And The Woods," The Classicist Dance-Rocker "Broken," And Perhaps The Kinetic, Jerky "Heartbeats") Play Out Like Obvious Singles In The Typical Pop Sense. Otherwise, The Album Tends To Dole Out Its Abundant Hooks In Less Than Conventional Ways, Favoring Elaborate, Multi-Part Song Structures With Extended Instrumental Interludes And Transitions (Starting From The Absurdly Grandiose Glam Guitar Fanfare Of The Opening "Hot Tent Blues"), "Ambient" Breakdowns, And Periodic Tempo Shifts (The Intermittently Irresistible Mini-Epic "Bathroom Gurgle" Features At Least Four). A Convoluted Construction Crammed With So Many Immediately Gratifying Moments That It Takes Multiple Listens To Extricate Them.” K. Ross Hoffman, AMG....more
