Beaver & Krause / Gerry Mulligan / Bud Shank - Gandharva
Sealed 1971 Blue Cover Art 2nd Edition (Original Pressing, First Edition Feature The Same Cover Art In Red). “In Electronic Music Circles -- And Among "Heads" In General -- The Names Of Beaver & Krause Have Attained An Almost Mystical Status That Their Small Back Catalog Frankly Struggles To Live Up To. Sure, They Were Matchmakers When Commercial Rock And Electronic Music Were Circling Each Other Warily -- It Was Bernie Krause, In Particular, Who Introduced The Moog Synthesizer To The Likes Of George Harrison And Micky Dolenz (Though He Neglected To Show Them How To Put It To Good Use). Yet Much Of Their Recorded Work Sounds Remarkably Timid When Compared To That Of Other Electronic Pioneers Of The Period. Ironically, The Most Powerful Music They Committed To Record Involved Hardly Any Electronic Input Whatsoever. The Suite That Filled The Second Side Of Gandharva Was Recorded In San Francisco's Grace Cathedral -- Chosen For Its Extended Decay Time And As A Space That Would Make The Most Of New Quadrophonic Recording Techniques -- And Involved Jazz Legend Gerry Mulligan On Baritone Sax And Bud Shank On Alto Sax And Flute. Also Present Were Gail Laughton, Playing Two Harps Simultaneously, Howard Roberts On Guitar, And Krause On Moog -- Though He Can Only Be Heard Adding The Very Occasional Rumble. But What Made The Music Unlike Any Previously Recorded Was Paul Beaver's Serene Performance On The Cathedral's Pipe Organ. The Combination Of Sax And Church Organ Has Been Attempted Many Times Since (By Keith Jarrett And Jan Garbarek To Name But Two), But Never Have The Results Come Close To Matching These. "Short Film For David," "Good Places," And Mulligan's Own "By Your Grace" Are Works Of Extraordinary Stillness And Beauty, With Both Shank And Mulligan Soaring Effortlessly.” Christopher Evans, AMG....more

Roney, Wallace - Intuition
Extremely Hard To Find 1988 White Label Promo Featuring Ron Carter, Kenny Garrett, Cindy Blackman, Mulgrew Miller And Gary Thomas. LP Looks Unplayed. “For This Somewhat Adventurous But Still Mostly Straight-Ahead Date, Trumpeter Wallace Roney Explores Three Of His Originals (Including "For Duke," Which Is Slightly Reminiscent Of "Upper Manhattan Medical Group"), Two By Drummer And Underrated Composer Cindy Blackman, And One By Bassist Ron Carter. Roney, Blackman And Carter Are Joined By Pianist Mulgrew Miller, Tenor Saxophonist Gary Thomas And Altoist Kenny Garrett (Quite An All-Star Group), And The Music Is As Strong As One Would Expect, Reflecting Roney's Long Stint With The Tony Williams Quintet.” Scott Yanow, All Music Guide. Appears Unplayed....more

Pass, Joe - Summer Nights
Hard To Find 1990 Original. Appears Glossy, Unplayed. First Copy We Have Had In Stock In Eleven Years! Features John Pisano, Guitar; Jim Hughart, Nass; Colin Bailey, Drums. Gold Promo Stamp On Rear Cover. Probably A Promo-Only Release That Did Nopt Make It To Record Stores For The Buying Public. “During The Last Few Years Of His Life, Guitarist Joe Pass Enjoyed Having Reunions With The Same Musicians Who Played With Him 25 Years Earlier For The Classic For Django Recording: Rhythm Guitarist John Pisano, Bassist Jim Hughart And Drummer Colin Bailey. This 1989 Recording Could Almost Be Called For Django 2, For It Is The Same Vein As The Original. Pass Takes His Remake Of "For Django" Unaccompanied And Performs Four Of Django's Tunes, Along With Five Standards From The 1930s And Three Originals. Pisano, Who Was Instrumental In Organizing The Session And The Repertoire, Sticks To Acoustic Guitar, While Pass Alternates Between Acoustic And Electric. Although Joe Pass' Main Influence Was Charlie Christian And He Really Does Not Sound Like Reinhardt, He Manages To Evoke The Spirit Of Django While Swinging In His Own Fashion. It Is Particularly Nice Hearing Such Tunes As "Belleville," The Haunting "Tears" And "For Django" In Newer Versions.” Scott Yanow, AMG....more

Tyner, McCoy - Revelation
Factory Sealed. A Must-Have For The Blue Note Vinyl Collector. Extremely Limited Pressing On This 1989 LP. “On McCoy Tyner's First Solo Piano Album In 16 Years, The Remarkable Stylist Really Digs Into Six Standards (Including "Yesterdays," "In A Mellow Tone" And "Don't Blame Me") And Four Of His Originals (Highlighted By "You Taught My Heart To Sing"). Although Somewhat Typecast As John Coltrane's Fiery Pianist, Tyner At Times On This Record Sounds Romantic And In Other Spots Hints A Bit At Art Tatum. This Is A Rather Special Project From One Of The Finest Jazz Pianists Of The Past 35 Years.” Scott Yanow, AMG....more
