Ellis, Don - Haiku
Sealed 1973 Original Featuring Ray Brown, Milcho Leviev, John Guerin, Tommy Tedesco And Others. “This Album Is A Very Different Don Ellis Record. Rather Than Using A Big Band, The Trumpeter Is Well Showcased While Backed By A Large String Section On Ten Moody Originals. Although The Rhythm Section Includes Keyboardist Milcho Leviev And Bassist Ray Brown, The Focus Throughout This Set Is Almost Entirely On Ellis, Who Plays Beautifully On His Ten Picturesque Pieces. In Some Ways This Out-Of-Print LP Is An Ancestor Of New Age For Much Of The Music Is Quite Mellow. A Definite Change Of Pace For Don Ellis.” Scott Yanow, AMG....more

Manhattan Transfer And Gene Pistilli - Jukin'
Sealed 1969 Heavy Vinyl Stereo Original, Clean Cut Out Hole. First Sealed Copy We Have Seen In Ten Years. “This Was The Manhattan Transfer Before They Become The Manhattan Transfer, An Altogether Different Vocal Group From Which Founder Tim Hauser Was The Sole Holdover. Released By Capitol In The 1970s, Jukin' Is An Accumulation Of Scraps Recorded Over A Period Of Two Years In New York And Nashville. Back In Those Days, The Transfer Seemed To Be One Of Several Hippie Groups (Like Spanky And Our Gang And Dan Hicks And His Hot Licks) That Looked At The Past Ironically With Arched Eyebrows, Not Like The Later Transfer Which Affectionately Celebrated Old Music At Its Face Value. Hence The Pure Country Treatment Of "Fair And Tender Ladies," Which Has A Strong Whiff Of Condescension In The Group's Nasal Accents; Even The Doo Wop Tribute "Guided Missiles" Reeks Of Barely Concealed Contempt. Then As Now, The Transfer Were Unpredictably Eclectic In Their Tastes, While Also Very Much Aware Of The Then-Current Rock Marketplace. Hauser's Version Of Fats Waller's "You're A Viper" Bears Some Resemblance To The Later Transfer Manner, And One Number, "Java Jive," Appears In The Same Arrangement As The One The 1975 Transfer Used, If Rougher In Vocal Texture. For All Of The Careful Production, There Is A Casual Looseness About These Tracks That Is Typical Of Its Time, The Heyday Of The Hippie -- And As Such, Today's Transfer Fans Are In For A Surprise If They Want To Check Out The Group's Beginnings.” Richard S. Ginell, AMG....more

Motels - Careful
Sealed 1980 Original. Clean Cut Out Hole. “With Their Second Release, The Motels Make Steps Toward A More Seamless Style Of New Wave-Inflected Pop. Careful Kicks Off With The Perky, Sax-Driven "Danger," And There Are More Hits Than Misses. The Lyrics Still Lean Toward The Darker Side As On The Moody, Watercolor Melody Of The Title Track, But There Are Also Moments That Are Pop Gems Like The Europop-Styled "Bonjour Baby," The Midtempo Rock Of "Days Are O.K. (But The Nights Were Made For Love), Which Features The Album's Catchiest Hook, And The Uptempo "Cry Baby." Martha Davis, With Her Distinctive Vocals, Is Still The Band's Trump Card, But This Time Around The Band Gives Her A Little More Backing.” Tom Demalon, All Music Guide....more

Ware, Leon - Inside Is Love
Sealed 1979 Original. No Cut Out Or Deletion Markings. “Writer And Producer Leon Ware Has Been Responsible For Some Of R&B And Pop's Most Lush And Romantic Tracks. Ware Produced Marvin Gaye's 1976 Classic I Want You. He Also Co-Wrote Songs Like Michael Jackson's "I Wanna Be Where You Are," Marlena Shaw's "Sweet Beginnings," And The Main Ingredient's "Rollin' Down A Mountainside" To Name A Few. This Album Is The Follow-Up To His 1976 Gordy Release Musical Massage And Was Released Shortly After He Was Behind The Controls For Nine Of The Ten Tracks Of Melissa Manchester's Don't Cry Loud. Inside Is Love Has The Intelligent And Melody Rich Work Fans Expect From Leon Ware. Produced By Ware And Ron Roker, This Has Arrangements From David Blumberg, Gene Page, And Sonny Burke. Although He's Not The World's Strongest Vocalist, His Methodical, Light Tenor Gives These Songs A Personal Stamp. The First Track, "What's Your Name" Has Ware Playing His Naïve Lothario Act To The Hilt. The Magnificent "Love Is A Simple Thing," Co-Written By Chicago Member Robert Lamm, Possesses A Chorus That Is Both Poignant And Uplifting. Throughout Inside Is Love, Ware Has Some Of His Best Lyrics And A Batch Of Players To Pull It Off. The Fanciful "Club Sashay," Co-Written By Manchester, Has A Gentle Rhythm That's A Perfect Match For The Phonetically Pleasing Words. The Last Track, "Hungry" Has Ware Mixing His Classic Style With The Disco-Fied Chorus. Inside Is Love Is An Absolute Necessity For Fans Of Emotional And Brainy R&B/Pop.” Jason Elias, All Music Guide....more
