Ecology
Used - LP - RS514
1970 US Original Pressing With Custom Motown Inner Sleeve. Gentle Cover Wear, Light Bag Imprint On Vinyl, VG++ Player. "Two Strong Tracks Propelled Ecology Up The Pop Charts: The Swaggering, Bravado-laden "Born To Wander," Written By Tom Baird, And A Hard-hitting, Rocking Rendition Of The Temptations' "I Know I'm Losing You," Written By Cornelius Grant, Eddie Holland, And Norman Whitfield; The Epic Remake Of The Latter Is Almost Eleven Minutes Of Pure Funk-rock. Lead Singer Pete Riviera Had A Powerful Voice, Similar To Dennis Edwards, That Could Sell A Song; The Percussion And Echo Vocals Accentuate The Classic. The Guys Do A Nice Job On John Lennon And Paul McCartney's "Eleanor Rigby," And Bass Player John Persh's "Nice Place To Visit" Adds A Different Twist To Rare Earth's Legacy." AMG - Andrew Hamilton. more
Get Ready
Used - LP - M5 229V1
1982 Pressing Still In Shrink. Corner Crease. "Rare Earth's Motown Debut Is As Well-oiled As A New V-8, And So Are Its Liner Notes: "In This Age Of Ego-tripping Freak Bands, Rare Earth Has Stood Pretty Much Alone. Each Cat Stands Handsomely Tall As If From A Fashion Rack At Carnaby. They Do Their Gig; Do It Well -- And Split." Smirking Aside, The Band Turns In A Smoothly Harmonized "In Bed" And A Chugging Rhythm Section For "Train To Nowhere." But The Core Of This Release Is A Live Side-long Monster Version Of "Get Ready." It's As Driven By The Crowd's Rapturous Response As By The Various Solos, And The Snake-charmer Sax Improv By Gil Bridges Is Easily The Highlight Of The Album." Paul Collins, AMG more

Also Includes The Original Rare Earth Label Color Inner Sleeve Showing 14 Shots Of Different Titles. “Ma Is Rare Earth's Most Satisfying LP, A Great Effort Capped Off By Norman Whitfield Writing And Producing All Five Songs. "Ma," The Title Track, Had Been Done By The Temptations And The Undisputed Truth, But Nobody Rocked Like Rare Earth; They Jam For 17:17 On The Funkiest Mama Song Ever. "Hum Along And Dance" First Appeared On The Temptations' Psychedelic Shack; Rare Earth Gives The Groover An Update, With A Rolling Organ To Set It Off. A Haunting Arrangement Of "Smiling Faces Sometimes" Will Make You Shiver, And Things Don't Get Much More Sensual Than The Soft And Lush "Come With Me." Andrew Hamilton, AMG. more

Rare Earth
Used - LP - P6-10019S1
1977 Original Still In Shrink. "This First Of Three Albums For The Prodigal Imprint Of Motown Records Had No Hits, But Is More Cohesive Than The Two Albums That Would Follow, Grand Slam And Band Together. A Slick Funky Sound Has Replaced The Earthy Rock /r&b That Was The Band's Trademark. "Is Your Teacher Cool?" Was Co-authored By Four Songwriters, Including Anna Gaye. It's Very Clever And Sounds Tailor-made For Earth, Wind & Fire Or Kool & The Gang, Both Groups In Their Prime At This Point In Time. Another Anna Gaye Co-write, "Foot Loose And Fancy Free," Owes Much To The Commodores And Their "Brick House," Which Was Out At This Exact Moment In Time. It Would Be Remiss To Not Mention That Rod Stewart Had A Huge Album With The Same Title In 1977, Indicating The "New" Rare Earth Was Watching The Hitmakers And Restructuring The Music. This Material Might Have Been Suitable For The Hotel Circuit And Dance Set, But It Has Little Of The Charm Of "Get Ready," When The Group Could Take A Temptations Song And Reinvent It For The Rock & Roll Crowd. Interesting, Though, Is That Despite Missing The Thing That Brought The Band Fame, As A Complete Album The Focus Is Even More Unified Than The Group's Earlier Successful Discs, With Peter Hoorelbeke (The Former Pete Rivera) At His Best On A Song He Co-wrote With Tom Baird, "When I Write." It's Quite The Paradox. Gloria Jones Delivers Two Co-writes That Work Well For The Group, "Share My Love" And "Tin Can People," And If The Style Is Culture Shock For Those Who Expect "Born To Wander," At Least The Album Is Highly Listenable And Well Crafted. The Problem Is, Again, That Rare Earth's Success Was Always In Transferring One Genre To Another. Here The Group Moves Into And Embraces The Territory That It Was Once So Good At Reformulating. Though Far And Away The Best Of The Three Prodigal Discs (Even Though Rare Earth's Final Hit Would Be On The Band Together Lp), The Move To Funk Is Too Blatant, And Feels Too Calculated. A Berry Gordy Co-write, "I Really Love You," Is One Of The Highlights. An Interesting Twist In The Career Of This Group That Always Seemed To Be A Few Quarts Away From Hip And One Step Out Of Time." Rare Earth In Concert
Used - LP - R534D
1971 2LP Original, Hollywood Pressing (With Matrix Variants). Housed In Die-Cut, Envelope Style Jacket To Look Like A Burlap-Style Backpack. No Poster. Vinyl Appears Glossy. Jacket Has Very Minor Wear. "The Performances From Which This Album Is Comprised Must Have Been An Embarrassment Of Riches. That's One Way Of Explaining How This Live Double-LP Set Came To Be Released -- That And The Fact That Rare Earth's Peak Years Coincided With The Commercial Heyday Of The Live Album. Whatever The Reason, In Concert Was The Most Expansive Live Recording Ever Issued By Motown Records. What's More, It All Works In Terms Of Being An Honest Representation Of This Band -- Not That They Compromised Much In The Studio, Where Their Rendition Of "Get Ready" Ran 20 Minutes, But Playing To An Audience Was What They'd Been About From The Start, And Everything Here Resonates With The Joy Of That Process. And In Addition To Capturing The Band In Top Form, The Recording Itself Provided A Beautifully Vivid Sound Picture, Every Instrument And Voice Captured Spot-on, All The More Amazing Considering The Size Of This Band And The Complexities Of Their Sound -- Flutes, Guitars (Acoustic And Electric), Keyboards, Saxes, Percussion, And More Are All Here In Close Detail, But Nothing More Solid In The Mix Than John Persh's Lead Bass Work In The Middle Section Of The 23-And-A-Half-Minute "Get Ready." Their Reshaping Of "What'd I Say" Also Works Well As A Concert Number, And Pretty Much Everything Here Is A Joyous Celebration Of What This Band And Their Era Were About -- The Group-credited Jam "Thoughts" Isn't The Most Interesting Moment Here, But It Does Avoid The Pitfalls Of The Most Excessive Work Of Its Period And Can Sustain Its Ten-Minute Length Without Trouble. The Passage Of Time Has Also Allowed One To Appreciate The Full Technical Range Of This Record -- By 1971, Live Recording Had Become So Sophisticated That The Producers Were Even Able To Give An Expansive Stereo Sound Picture, Which Came Out Well On The Vinyl And Is Even Better On Digital Reissues."
