Richard Beirach / George Mraz / Jack DeJohnette - Elm Elm
Jazz Used - LP ECM-1-1142 ECM
1982 Original In Shrink Wrap. Glossy, Unplayed Condition. LP Pressed On Pure Virgin Vinyl. “Beirach Was An Admirer And, I Believe, At Least Briefly, A Student Of Bill Evans. One Can Hear That Influence In Beirach's Playing, But I've Always Found Beirach To Be The More Interesting Player, For A Couple Of Reasons. First, Beirach Has A More Modern Sensibility Than Evans. The "Classical" Influence In Evans Really Doesn't Go Much Beyond The Impressionist Composers; With Beirach, We Hear A Player Who Has Assimilated More 20th Century Music Into His Playing And Composing. His Reharmonizations Of Jazz Standards, For Example, Are Considerably More Adventurous Than Evans'. Second, Though He Is Not A Jazz-Rock Or Fusion Player, Beirach's Approach Suggests Someone Who Grew Up Listening To Rock As Well As Jazz, Which For Me Is A Good Thing. (I Think It's A Little Weird When Somebody Who Grew Up During The Rock Era Shows No Traces Of Rock Influence. What, You Never Listened To The Beatles?) In Any Case, This Is A Beautiful Album, One Which Many Beirach Fans Regard As His Best.” David Bartholome, AMG.... more details
