Orange Label Stereo 2nd Issue. This Album Not Only Has Some Of The Finest Jazz Recorded On This Label, It Is Also One Of Roy DuNann's Finest Recording Efforts From 1958. "Grooveyard" by the Harold Land Quintet is a testament to the robust and expressive hard bop movement of the early 1960s. The album showcases Harold Land's prowess on the tenor saxophone, seamlessly blending intricate improvisations with the quintet's cohesive sound. Noted for its lyrical depth and rhythmic complexity, "Grooveyard" captures the quintet's dynamic interplay, particularly between Land and the trumpeter. Each track on the album offers a unique narrative, yet together they form a cohesive journey through the emotive landscapes of jazz, emphasizing the quintet's ability to balance structured compositions with spontaneous expression.
Land's collaboration on this project is further enhanced by the talented lineup of musicians whose individual skills contribute to the group's rich sound. The Fox
Used - LP - S7619
1975 US Stereo reissue on Contemporary Records; Originally released on HiFi Jazz in '60. Strong cover with hint of ring wear & some light fading at top and spine seams. Recorded at Radio Recorders Studio B, L.A. August 1959. "Due to his decision to settle in Los Angeles, tenor saxophonist Harold Land has long been underrated. A strong bop stylist who later on would be influenced a great deal by John Coltrane, Land in 1959 had a sound closer to Sonny Rollins. For this excellent straight-ahead quintet set with trumpeter Dupree Bolton and pianist Elmo Hope, Land performs four of Hope's superior but little-known compositions along with two of his own. This is high-quality hard bop, easily recommended to fans of straight-ahead jazz." All Music Guide - Scott Yanow.

The Peace-Maker
New - LP - B0038186-01
Sealed 2023 Verve By Request reissue. Custom hype sticker on shrink. 180gm vinyl pressed at Third Man Records. "The first pairing of tenor saxophonist Harold Land and vibist Bobby Hutcherson crackles with the energy and joy of collaboration. Each spurs the other to new zeniths of creativity and craft, yielding one of the finest if little-known jazz LPs of its era. The Peace-Maker is a particularly apt title. The record's serene, supple contours glow with a lyricism that eschews the angularity of bop. Land's graceful sax melds perfectly with Hutcherson's warm, shimmering vibes to create a deeply soulful, even divine sound. His original compositions are no less thoughtful, galvanized by a yearning for harmony that embraces all senses of the term." All Music Guide - Jason Ankeny
